Parents across Wicklow are taking action to address rising anxiety in children, thanks to the "It Takes A Village" initiative. This community effort has brought together nearly 200 parents from Greystones and Delgany, providing them with practical tools to help their children navigate stress and worry in daily life.
In collaboration with the renowned Triple P – Positive Parenting Program®, recent workshops have offered valuable strategies for building emotional resilience, boosting confidence in difficult situations, and teaching problem-solving skills. Led by Dominic Weston, Triple P – Positive Parenting Program®, Head of Training, the sessions focused on empowering parents to help their children manage anxious thoughts effectively.
“There’s a common humanity in anxiety, and the world is much more stressful these days,” Weston shared. “Starting conversations about how to cope with anxiety is incredibly helpful. Sharing experiences and realizing we all go through similar struggles brings relief.”
Parents attending the events at Temple Carrig Secondary School and St. Patrick’s National School responded positively to the practical advice offered. One parent described the workshop as “really practical and relevant,” while another said, “It made me more aware of the things I’m doing and the changes I need to make.”
The workshops continue next month with a session on Helping Children Develop Healthy Screen Time Habits. This will take place on Thursday, November 7th, at Temple Carrig School from 7:30 to 9:00 PM, and on Friday, November 8th, at St. Patrick’s School from 9:30 to 11:00 AM.
